One more dead after protest
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: After fighting for her life for six days at the Advent Hospital, Saydatul Fitria died on Sunday, raising the number of deaths from last week's bloody student demonstration to two.
An English major at Lampung University, Fitria was pronounced dead on Sunday morning due to severe head injuries.
Fitria is the second victim of the demonstration, following the death of M. Yusuf Rizal, another student from Lampung University, who was shot when students clashed with security forces following a protest against the controversial state security bill on Thursday.
Fitria was reportedly beaten during the clash by a group of angry security officers as she was doing journalistic work for the on-campus publication Teknokra.
Her body was buried in Gadingrejo village of the Tanggamus regency later on Sunday. (52/edt)
