One-Month Deadline: House Commission III Demands Police Chief Swiftly Deal with Rogue Officers
Jakarta, VIVA – House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III member Hinca Panjaitan has issued a stern warning along with a one-month deadline to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to resolve a string of internal misconduct cases involving members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
Hinca stressed that various cases that have recently come to light — from drug involvement to assault resulting in death in South Sulawesi — represent a bitter reality about the culture within the police force that must be immediately and thoroughly overhauled.
“I believe the facts occurring today are undeniable. This is the cultural reality of the National Police that must be immediately improved and reformed. The key lies in the hands of the Police Chief, Mr Sigit — take charge of this immediately,” Hinca told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, as quoted on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
The Democratic Party politician called on the Police Chief to use the momentum of the holy month of Ramadan as a time to conduct a large-scale internal “cleansing”.
“The public is waiting. We are giving Mr Sigit one month to get this sorted. During the holy month of Ramadan, it is time to put our house in order. We must improve our culture and improve our performance,” Hinca asserted.
According to him, swift action is imperative as public anxiety has become palpable. He demanded that officers who have abused their positions be immediately removed and prosecuted without exception.
Hinca urged the Police Chief not to hesitate in exercising his authority, including placing problematic officers under Special Assignment (Patsus) for further investigation.
“All police officers currently on duty or holding positions who are implicated — pull them all out. Place them under Special Assignment, investigate swiftly in accordance with established mechanisms, and then try them according to the rules,” he continued.
