Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) has confirmed that one of seven Malaysian commercial ships has been permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to confirm that one of the seven Malaysian-owned commercial ships that were previously stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the developing regional situation has been granted permission to transit safely and is now en route to its final destination,” read a statement from Wisma Putra in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Wisma Putra stated that this positive outcome was achieved following high-level diplomatic engagement between Malaysian and Iranian leaders.

The high-level diplomacy included a constructive telephone conversation on 26 March 2026 between Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

Additionally, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan had previously held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on 24 March 2026.

Wisma Putra affirmed that Malaysia remains strongly committed to the principles of freedom of navigation, safety, and security of maritime shipping, in accordance with international law.

Malaysia also reaffirmed the importance of continuous dialogue and diplomatic engagement in addressing regional challenges and maintaining peace and stability.
