One killed, nine injured in crash

TANGERANG (JP): A man was killed and nine others severely injured when a public minibus plying between Cimone and Balaraja collided head-on with a water tanker at around 5 a.m. on Monday in Cikupa district, police said.

"The minibus driver, Atta, was trying to overtake a vehicle near the turning in front of Cikupa district office when the truck, coming from opposite direction, smashed into the front of the minibus," Cikupa Police subdistrict chief First Insp. Samsi said.

The victims were all traveling in the minibus. The truck driver fled the scene shortly after the incident.

The dead man was identified as 30-year-old Maman. His body and the casualties were taken to Tangerang General Hospital.

Officer Samsi said police were still looking for the driver of the truck. Atta was being questioned over the incident, he added.

"We are calling for the truck driver to surrender and we will not hesitate in taking firm measures here," he said. (41/edt)
