One killed in train crash

CIREBON, West Java: A public minivan passenger was killed and 10 others were injured when the vehicle was hit by a speeding Argo Lawu express train on a crossing on Jl. Tentara Pelajar on Monday.

Antara quoted witnesses as saying that the minivan attempted to pass through the railway crossing ahead of the train despite the fact that the railway crossing gate was closing.

The minivan was dragged a few meters by the train, throwing several passengers out of the vehicle, which was driven by Dede.

Cirebon traffic police chief Adj. Comr. Amur Candra confirmed the incident. "An investigation into the accident is under way and a number of witnesses are being questioned," he said.
