One killed in N. Jakarta fire

JAKARTA (JP): One person was killed when fire ravaged some 200 scavengers' homes on Jl. Pluit Mas Utara, Penjaringan district, in North Jakarta on Saturday.

The North Jakarta fire brigade confirmed that there was a fire and said the victim was identified as Yusnia, a 14-year-old girl.

"The fire started at about 9 p.m., after an oil lamp in a scavenger's home fell over," he told The Jakarta Post over the weekend.

The fire brigade deployed nine trucks and they managed to put the fire out within two hours, he said. (jun)
