One-Hectare Plot in Plesedan, Bantul, Catches Fire After Resident Burns Rubbish

A fire engulfed around one hectare of land beside the Jogja-Wonosari road in Plesedan, Srimulyo, Piyungan, Bantul. It was caused by a resident burning rubbish on the plot and then leaving it unattended.

“There was a fire on land beside the Jogja-Wonosari road in Piyungan, Bantul,” Kristanto Kurniawan, head of the Bantul Regional Disaster Management Agency’s Fire and Rescue Division, told detikJogja on Thursday (15 October 2026).

Kristanto said the fire started at 1.30pm. At the time, a resident was burning rubbish on the land.

“After burning the rubbish, they left, and the fire eventually spread to neighbouring land,” he said.

Local residents who noticed the fire tried to put it out with whatever equipment they had, but were unsuccessful. They then contacted Bantul’s fire and rescue service.

“Once they arrived, our personnel immediately began extinguishing the fire, and it was put out at around 4pm,” he said.

Kristanto said there were no injuries or fatalities. The incident briefly slowed traffic on the Jogja-Wonosari road.

“There were no casualties, and around one hectare of land was burned. Traffic was also temporarily managed while the fire was being put out,” he said.
