One Flash Flood Victim in Solok Found Dead, One Still Missing
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reported that one victim of the flash flood in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, has been found dead, while another person remains missing as joint SAR teams continue their search.
The flash flood struck Nagari Batang Barus, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency, on Monday (21/9) at approximately 19:30 WIB following intense rainfall in the region.
According to data updated as of Tuesday evening, one of the two residents previously reported missing has been found deceased, while the search for the second victim continues.
Previously, the Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that SAR teams were conducting searches for the two missing individuals.
“Currently, there are two victims who have not yet been found,” Berton said, based on the available data provided during his briefing.
Joint SAR teams are conducting searches across several locations, including patrolling river currents and inspecting mud deposits carried by the flood.
According to the latest data, the disaster also left one resident with serious injuries and three others with minor injuries.
The flash flood has affected approximately 100 residential houses and several government buildings in the Arosuka area.
Berton previously noted that around 50 residents required evacuation centres. Meanwhile, data from the Solok Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Tuesday morning recorded nine heads of households, or 32 individuals, displaced to two locations prepared by the local government.
The discrepancy in numbers is part of the ongoing process of documenting affected residents.
Solok Regency BPBD also previously recorded that 11 government offices were impacted, and 21 cars and seven motorcycles were damaged due to the flash flood.
Furthermore, the flash flood caused damage to road access and several facilities around the Solok Regency government complex due to mud and debris.
Joint teams are continuing search operations, evacuations, debris clearance, and the assessment of the disaster’s impact.
