One dies in crash involving Megawati convoy

SURAKARTA, Central Java: One motorcyclist died after being hit
by a car that was part of a convoy to welcome the arrival of
President Megawati Soekarnoputri at Adi Sumarmo Airport here on
Monday.

The accident, which occurred on Jl. Ngasem in Kartasura,
Sukoharjo, also injured a pillion passenger on the motorbike.

Megawati landed in Surakarta as she was to attend a ceremony
marking Cooperatives Day in Alas Ketu, Wonogiri regency.

Sukoharjo Police chief Adj. Comr. Bambang Rudi said the dead
victim had been identified as Sriyono, 28, a resident of Musuk
village in Boyolali, while the injured victim was Sunaryo, 29,
from the same village.

Sunaryo is now being treated at the Yarsis Hospital in
Kartasura, he added.

Rudi said the crash took place as the victims were riding in
the opposite direction to the convoy, and tried to overtake a
