One dead in Pulo Gadung house fire, East Jakarta

A house fire that began with an explosion on Jalan Pulo Mas Utara 2B No 8, Kayu Putih, Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, on Sunday evening, killed one resident. The head of operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, Abdul Wahid, said the victim’s body was found in a back bedroom after the fire was extinguished. ‘The deceased was found in the back room on the right,’ Abdul said. Abdul stated that residents heard an explosion shortly before the fire broke out. ‘Neighbours heard what sounded like an explosion, then saw the fire growing from the victim’s house, and immediately contacted the neighbourhood authorities and the fire brigade,’ Abdul explained. The department first received information about the fire at 7.31 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and immediately deployed fire engines. Firefighters began the extinguishing operation at 7.41 p.m. After battling the blaze for approximately 40 minutes, the fire was successfully put out. ‘Nine units with a strength of 45 personnel were deployed. The extinguishing operation is complete,’ Abdul said.
