One dead in drug raid

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Police said they shot dead one man during a drug raid in a nearby jungle and seized 31 kilograms of marijuana from the location.

Nineteen other members of the syndicate however fled.

Commandant of the southeast Aceh military district, Lt. Col. Tara, said the encounter with the members of the syndicate was by chance when security officers were paying a visit to the home of a village chief in the Blangkejeren jungle.

There they found the chief threatened at knife point by a member of the syndicate. Other members of the syndicate were transporting marijuana with a yoke across their shoulders at 2 a.m. on Saturday, the Antara news agency said. (pan)
