One dead in Bali landslide

DENPASAR, Bali: A person was killed when a landslide hit the
village of Bugbug, Bali, while a family of five survived another
landslide burying their house in the village of Pelaga, a local
government official said on Thursday.

Heavy rain over the past few weeks triggered the landslide in
the Bugbug village that killed 55-year old I Nengah Ribut. He was
preparing with two friends a drainage ditch outside his house.
His friends survived the ordeal, said Nyoman Suarjana an official
at the Petang district administration.

In the Pelaga village, 45-year old Ahmad, his wife and three
children escaped a landslide before it hit their house, he said.

"The five-meter wide landslide at the edge of a hill occurred
on Wednesday evening and caused severe damage to the house,"
Nyoman said, adding that the two houses next to it were not hit.
