One person died and four others were reported missing after rain-induced lahar floods on the Senowo River, which has its headwaters in Mount Merapi, Magelang. The lahar flood occurred due to extremely heavy rainfall.

“This rain-induced lahar flood was caused by an exceptionally high rainfall intensity. As a result, lahar floods occurred upstream of the Senowo River,” Magelang Regent Grengseng Pamuji said, quoted by detikJateng, on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

The incident occurred on Tuesday (3 March) around 15:30 WIB. One fatality has been confirmed.

“To date, one death has been identified. And four are suspected to be missing,” Grengseng added.

Grengseng said six people were also injured. The SAR team will continue the search today for the four residents who are still missing.

“We will focus on emergency response first. Tomorrow morning we will continue the sweep related to the four victims who are suspected to be undetermined. Tomorrow (today) we will start at 08:00. On-site all parties, BPBD, Basarnas, TNI/Polri, volunteers,” he added.
