On the fourth day, plastic warehouse fire in Cengkareng remains unextinguished
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The plastic warehouse fire on Jalan Peternakan Raya, Kapuk urban village, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, had not been extinguished as it entered its fourth day on Thursday.
Head of Operations of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat) Syaiful Kahfi said that numerous embers or hotspots trapped beneath plastic material and the debris of the fire were keeping the blaze alive.
‘There are still hotspots, that’s why we need to dismantle first,’ Syaiful said when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.
Therefore, since Wednesday (20/5), one excavator has been deployed to lift material that still stores embers.
If the material can be lifted, Syaiful said, the nozzle can be inserted so that the water can reach the hotspots.
‘There is already a Beko, because we have to dismantle first, to create a gap for us to insert the nozzle. On top of the material there is a fairly thick wall debris and also iron, so we can’t spray carelessly,’ he said.
To date, 18 fire units with 90 personnel have been deployed. ‘Our target is to have it extinguished by tonight, we are still making efforts,’ he added.
