On the Discussion of the Election Law Revision, Puan Maharani: All Parties Have Already Held Talks

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The House of Representatives (DPR) has resumed its session today. In response to questions about when the Revision of the General Elections Law (RUU Pemilu) will be discussed, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani said that communication between political parties is still ongoing.

Puan stated that coordination has been carried out since several previous sessions.

“From previous sessions regarding the RUU Pemilu, all parties have already held talks as I mentioned, informally or formally with the general chairmen, with all colleagues to discuss the matter,” said Puan at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

“So whatever it is, we desire that the upcoming elections can be conducted fairly, without harming the people, and beneficial to the nation and state,” she added.

For her, the interests of the people remain the top priority in every political decision-making process in parliament.

“This is indeed the time when it’s approaching, that’s correct. However, what is best for the people is what we prioritise most. So we will continue to hold talks in the best possible way, informally and formally,” she stressed.
