Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated that the series of Idul Fitri night activities at Istiqlal Mosque will begin with a communal breaking of the fast. Following that, the congregation will perform Isha prayer, which will be continued with the echoes of takbir.

According to Nasaruddin, this year’s takbir echoes will feel special due to the involvement of connections with major mosques in the Southeast Asian region. “Insha Allah, these takbir echoes will be enlivened by media colleagues as well, and insha Allah, we will connect with major mosques across MABIMS,” said Nasaruddin during a press conference at Istiqlal Mosque on Friday (20/3/2026).

He explained that the network covers mosques in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and Indonesia. In addition, the mosque in the Nusantara Capital (IKN) will also join in the takbir echoes.

The takbir will be proclaimed by the imam and muezzin of Istiqlal Mosque, who are known for having the best vocal quality. The Minister emphasised that the imams for the obligatory prayers and muezzins on duty are figures with international achievements.

“Because it is impossible to become a muezzin or a major imam, I mean imam for obligatory prayers, without having international achievements,” he said.

In addition to the takbir echoes, the series of events will also include speeches to bid farewell to the holy month of Ramadan. The tradition of communal bedug drumming will also be carried out as a marker of the arrival of Idul Fitri.

The figure who is also the grand imam of Istiqlal Mosque hopes that several state officials, including the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, can attend the event. He also invited the public to join in enlivening the takbiran night with full solemnity.

“Our hope is that all these activities run smoothly and become a momentum of togetherness for the Muslim ummah in welcoming the day of victory,” he concluded.
