On public humiliation
On public humiliation
I refer to the letter from Bruce Emond Lessons in public
humiliation published in The Jakarta Post on Dec. 10, 1999.
Having read your letter I must say that I strongly agree with
your opinion concerning what had happened to a 10-year-old boy in
Metro department store at Plaza Senayan. I am not a psychologist
but I believe the incident could prove to be a traumatic
experience for the boy, which may haunt him for quite some time.
I think the department store management should review its policy
of handling their customers and in recruiting staff.
A good service does not only mean how to wrap merchandise
nicely and how to handle things properly. More importantly is how
to show good attitude toward shoppers, be they adults or
teenagers.
