State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has spoken about the possibility of President Prabowo Subianto visiting victims of the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Prasetyo explained that Prabowo’s arrival to visit the earthquake victims is still dependent on the situation. So far, Prasetyo said a number of ministers have been asked to be present at the disaster site first.

“We will see the situation later. The ministers are already there, we will see how it is and then we will decide,” Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, 17 August 2026.

It was previously reported that the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) had released updated data on victims affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). A total of 53 people have died and 135 others have been injured.

“In total we have recorded 53 fatalities, with the breakdown as follows: West Manggarai Regency, one person. East Manggarai Regency 20 people, Manggarai Regency 25 people, Nagekeo 1 person, Sikka 4 people, Ende 2 people,” said BNPB Deputy for Prevention Abdul Muhari during a press conference on Sunday, 16 August 2026.

Abdul Muhari explained in detail the number of injuries resulting from the earthquake. The 135 injured victims are receiving treatment at a number of health facilities in the local area.

“For the injured victims currently being treated at the nearest community health centres, the total is 135 people, consisting of Sikka 12 people, Manggarai 17 people with serious injuries, 20 people with minor injuries, East Manggarai 21 people with serious injuries, 109 people with minor injuries, West Manggarai 6 people with serious injuries,” he said.

He also conveyed the government’s condolences and sorrow over the deaths of the victims.

“Once again, on behalf of the government, we of course pray for the best for the victims and express our deepest sympathy to the families left behind,” he said.
