Ships in the Strait of Hormuz still must undergo negotiations with Iranian authorities because tensions in the region have not subsided.

This was conveyed by the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, in response to questions regarding the Pertamina tanker still detained in the route.

He emphasised that all countries without exception are required to follow the procedure because conditions in the region are not yet normal.

Previously, on Thursday (9/4), ahead of negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had established an alternative maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz on the grounds of sea mine risks.

However, on Friday (10/4), the Strait of Hormuz could not be fully opened because all sea mines planted during the war have not yet been located.

The Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) has assured that the Iranian Government has responded positively to the Indonesian Government’s request for the Pertamina-owned ship to pass safely.

“The main point is that we are endeavouring for the Pertamina ship to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Spokesperson for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Vahd Nabyl, in a press conference held at the Foreign Ministry office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

The Pertamina Pride ship was detected off the coast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the Gamsunoro ship was recorded off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
