On Melawai market
From Pos Kota
Traditional markets in Jakarta are managed by PD Pasar Jaya, the city's market operator, in an outdated fashion, except those run in cooperation with private investors like Pasar Baru and Glodok City, which are attractive and convenient.
An example of a poorly maintained markets is Pasar Melawai II, where the escalators have been out-of-order for six years. The kiosks in this market are also not properly regulated, with vendors packing the entrance so that it is almost impossible to get in. Meanwhile, lots of space in the basement is left vacant.
Due to the broken escalators, hundreds of stalls have closed down in Melawai II. Who should be held responsible for this: The mayor of South Jakarta or the president of PD Pasar Jaya?
