On Labour Day, Prabowo Promises People Can Installment Homes with Low Interest
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto conveyed his promise that low-income Indonesians can instalment homes with very low annual interest rates.
Prabowo delivered this promise in his speech at the 2026 International Labour Day commemoration at Monas on Friday (1/5).
“It was also mentioned earlier that workers greatly need affordable housing. We have already built quite a few. Up to 350,000 units. Our target this year is 1 million homes, and these homes, as per your suggestion, will be built near industrial cluster areas. I have planned new cities. Each city with 100,000 homes. Apartment-style housing,” explained Prabowo.
“Brothers and sisters, you said earlier that 30 percent of your income goes to rent. Later, we will ensure that you will own that home. So, the 30 percent that went to rent will now be used to instalment your own home,” stated Prabowo.
Prabowo also promised that workers, employees, farmers, and fishermen can instalment homes with the longest possible tenure.
“The instalment, if possible, 20 years. If not, 25 years, 30 years. If not, 35 years. If not, 40 years because workers won’t go anywhere. Farmers and fishermen won’t run off anywhere,” said Prabowo.
“So far, the little people, when borrowing money, the interest is extraordinarily high. Up to 70 percent per year. I have ordered the banks owned by the Republic of Indonesia; soon they will disburse credit to the people at a maximum of 5 percent per year,” he continued in his speech.
Prabowo also conveyed his promise to build around 1 million homes for workers, farmers, and fishermen to own homes.
“I have ordered us to build 1 million homes, and we will strive. We will build these one million homes, which will create many jobs. Imagine, one home requires five workers. Each year, we might create millions of jobs,” said Prabowo.
