On Labour Day, Kadin DKI hopes government ensures minimum wage formula
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin DKI) hopes the government can create policy stability, including certainty in the minimum wage formula.
“We hope the government can create policy stability and legal certainty. One of them is certainty in the minimum wage formula and labour regulations, of course referring to the current conditions,” said the General Chair of Kadin DKI, Diana Dewi, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday, in response to Labour Day commemorations every 1 May.
Kadin DKI also hopes the government can provide stimuli for industries affected by global fluctuations (exports-imports) to prevent mass layoffs, as well as strengthen the domestic market and people’s purchasing power so that household consumption remains stable.
Another thing that Kadin DKI hopes from the government is the simplification of bureaucracy that facilitates investment to create new job opportunities.
Meanwhile, to the workers, Kadin DKI hopes they can prioritise productive dialogue rather than protest actions to formulate joint solutions to business challenges.
“Also work flexibility, where amid economic pressures, we hope workers can understand the need for company operational efficiency to maintain business continuity,” said Diana.
“No less important is maintaining conducive conditions, so that May Day commemorations run peacefully, orderly, and do not disrupt the wheels of the economy. We hope worker actions can run safely, peacefully, and orderly,” said Diana.
Demonstrations, she said, are a means to convey aspirations, not to carry out anarchic actions. She hopes protest actions are not hijacked by other parties who want to take advantage of the opportunity.
“Voice aspirations in an orderly manner, so as not to disrupt other road users, especially to the point of disrupting the economy, especially if it makes investors afraid, of course it can have a bad impact, both for workers and the national economy,” she stated.
Regarding the provincial minimum wage (UMP), the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has set it at Rp5,729,876, an increase of 6.17 percent compared to Jakarta’s UMP in 2025.
The wage increase formula is Inflation + (Economic Growth x Alpha) with an Alpha range of 0.5 - 0.9. Alpha is a certain index that represents the contribution of workers to provincial or regency/city economic growth.
Meanwhile, the Labour Day or May Day commemoration in Jakarta will take place in the National Monument (Monas) area on 1 May 2026. The event, which will start at 08.00 WIB, is estimated to be attended by around 211,000 people, and will be attended by President Prabowo Subianto as well as international labour figures.
