On Jakarta's 499th Anniversary, Governor Pramono Urges Collective Action on Waste
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo delivered a message to all residents during the 499th anniversary of Jakarta, urging them to jointly address the waste problem so it does not become a burden and legacy for future generations. “Approaching five centuries of Jakarta, we must not pass on the waste problem to the next generation,” Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Monday. He added that the waste sorting movement must continue to be encouraged as a collective effort starting from homes, neighbourhoods, and everyday living spaces. He believes that a clean, healthy, and sustainable Jakarta can only be realised through collaboration between the government and the community. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government remains committed to working responsively and adaptively so that residents can carry out their activities while ensuring the city continues to move towards its future,” Pramono stated. “We are grateful that now, as conveyed by the Coordinating Minister yesterday (Sunday, 21 June 2026), waste sorting carried out in Jakarta has become a role model for other regions,” Pramono revealed. He further expressed hope that waste sorting can become a continuous movement so that Jakarta becomes a safe and comfortable global city.
