On its 61st Anniversary, PGN Strengthens Resilience and Infrastructure for National Energy Security
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – As it enters its 61st year, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), as a subsidiary of Pertamina’s gas division, is strengthening its role as the backbone of national natural gas infrastructure through strengthened supply, LNG development, and expansion of low-emission energy networks. PGN also continues to maintain business resilience to ensure the availability of independent and sustainable energy in the face of global energy dynamics.
“For 61 years, PGN has continued to transform itself to ensure that natural gas is always available for the community through diversification of supply, strengthening infrastructure, service innovation, and a commitment to implementing ESG aspects,” said Corporate Secretary of PGN, Fajriyah Usman, (13/5/2026).
In the past year, PGN has recorded various strategic steps as a form of consistency in maintaining reliable services and national energy security. PGN is actively securing supplies of both pipeline gas and domestic LNG from various sources such as Tangguh and Donggi Senoro, and exploring new supply potential from the Masela Block, Andaman, WK Tungkal, Coalbed Methane (CBM) development in Muara Enim, to biomethane as part of future energy development.
The strengthening of supply is also realized through various strategic agreements, including the signing of several Gas Sales Agreements (GSA) at IPA Convex 2025, a gas swap cooperation for West Natuna, and an HOA LNG agreement for the Masela Block with INPEX Masela.
The use of LNG to support supply security has also increased. PGN received additional supplies of domestic LNG, and for the first time carried out the receipt of LNG cargo through the FSRU Jawa Barat. PGN has also completed the revitalization of the Arun F-6004 LNG Tank with a capacity of 127,000 m³ which is ready to operate serving the Southeast Asia and South Asia markets in line with the development of the LNG Hub business.
From an operational perspective, PGN’s natural gas distribution volume reached 777 BBTUD, with a gas transmission volume of 1,539 MMSCFD (as of Q1 2026). The management of gas distribution is carried out optimally with the main focus on maintaining the sustainability of customer operations in the face of challenges from national and global economic dynamics.
PGN continues to strengthen its position as the manager of more than 95% of the national natural gas infrastructure. PGN added approximately 230 kilometers of new pipeline networks to expand access to natural gas energy in various regions of Indonesia. Infrastructure development is also strengthened through various strategic partnerships with national and international business partners.
Currently, with a market share of more than 91%, PGN’s operational area covers 18 provinces and 78 cities/regencies and is supported by a national natural gas pipeline network of more than 33,490 km.
“PGN also continues to expand services beyond pipelines through the use of retail Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an energy solution for communities that have not yet been reached by the natural gas pipeline network. The expansion of CNG services is carried out in various regions, including Medan through the construction of a CNG mother station and Bandung, to meet the energy needs of the industrial, commercial, MSME sectors to hotels, restaurants, and cafes (horeka),” explained Fajriyah.
The expansion of natural gas utilization has also expanded to reach household sectors which now have reached more than 820,000 connections. PGN is also expanding city gas to modern residential areas, the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran apartment complex, and exploring new areas such as Jatengland and BSB City.
Not only that, PGN’s performance and governance also received international recognition. PGN was included in the ranks of 50 public companies with the best implementation of governance in ASEAN and among the top 5 in Indonesia at the ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards 2025. PGN was also included in the list of Asia-Pacific’s Top 500 Companies by TIME Magazine, which is proof of the company’s resilience in maintaining performance and business growth in the face of global challenges.
As part of the company’s social contribution, PGN continues to present community empowerment programs and energy education through the Taman Jargas Nusantara, City Gas Tour 2025, Suadesa Festival, to a program for food security for saline-tolerant rice in the coastal area of Jepara.
“The momentum of the 61st anniversary is a reflection of PGN’s long journey in providing natural gas services for Indonesia. In the future, PGN is committed to continuing to strengthen the integration of national natural gas infrastructure, support the national energy transition, and maintain business sustainability in order to realize Indonesian energy security and independence,” concluded Fajriyah.
