On Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, KDM Apologises to West Java Residents Still Without Electricity

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi apologised to residents who have not yet received electricity during the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at Pasanggrahan Panca Rasa, in front of Gedung Sate, on Monday (17/8/2026). He also criticised the feudal culture that still exists within the West Java Provincial Government bureaucracy.

“Yes, we must be honest about our situation. After 81 years of independence, the government’s basic services still cannot run effectively,” he said after the ceremony on Monday (17/8/2026).

The governor, popularly known as KDM, gave the example that during his tenure as governor, around 500,000 residents still had no access to electricity. This is despite West Java being a centre of electrical energy production.

“Hydroelectric power plants are here, geothermal is here, and in Cirata there is now a floating solar power plant. Yet development has often neglected the areas that are the source of production, so those production-source areas frequently suffer,” he said.

KDM continued that many communities living around mining areas and power plants are suffering. He said the revenue-sharing funds have shifted to other places.

“This is a perspective that must be immediately addressed and acknowledged as something that needs to be corrected in regional financial governance. I am speaking about the West Java Province, of course,” he said.
