The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Windhoek, Namibia, commemorated the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia by organising a blood donation drive together with the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS).

Indonesian Ambassador to Namibia and Angola Mirza Nurhidayat said the activity was a form of social concern as well as a contribution by KBRI Windhoek to the people of Namibia, as conveyed in an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

NamBTS appreciated the initiative by KBRI Windhoek, as it is expected to help maintain the availability of blood for local communities in need.

In addition to the blood donation drive, KBRI Windhoek marked the 81st Independence Day with a flag ceremony held on Monday (17/8). The ceremony was attended by officials and staff of KBRI Windhoek, the Indonesian diaspora in Windhoek, and members of the Namibian media.

The participants wore a variety of traditional attire from across the Indonesian archipelago, including from Aceh, Lampung, Java, Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Acting as the ceremony inspector, Ambassador Mirza invited all participants to observe a moment of silence as an expression of grief and solidarity for the victims of the earthquake in NTT.

On that occasion, KBRI Windhoek also presented awards to six local staff members and one honorary staff member who had served for 10 and 20 years. The awards were given as a form of appreciation for their dedication and contribution.

To reach the public and the Indonesian diaspora in Angola, KBRI Windhoek broadcast the ceremony live through the embassy’s social media channels.

Ambassador Mirza also invited the entire Indonesian diaspora in Namibia and Angola to continue maintaining the spirit of nationalism and togetherness.

He expressed hope that the 81st Independence Day commemoration in Windhoek could serve as a momentum to strengthen the fraternity of the Indonesian community in Namibia and Angola, while also reinforcing relations with Friends of Indonesia in both countries.

Previously, KBRI Windhoek also held various competitions on 8 August. The activities were attended by the extended family of KBRI Windhoek and Friends of Indonesia, including Namibian children and the extended family of the Malaysian Embassy in Windhoek.
