On flight safety
On flight safety
From Media Indonesia
During the past few days, several media published news items
stating that the government would soon conduct independent audits
on national airlines, concerned with such matters as regulations
and maintenance in order to guarantee safety and correct flight
procedures.
In this context, we have to be extra careful in assessing the
air-worthiness of the aircraft still in operation. Commercial
planes should meet the international standards set by the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). According to
ICAO standards, the aircraft produced in 1981 like the ill-fated
Boeing 737-200 operated by Mandala Airlines R-091 should not
exceed the limits set at 2001.
It is high time the government took stricter measures in
regard to flight safety, comfort and air-worthiness of planes.
