Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has spoken about the progress of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT).

He stated that the DPR is still in the stage of receiving public participation on the matter.

“The Domestic Workers Protection Bill was submitted some time ago and is still in the public participation stage, which will continue,” Dasco told reporters on Monday, 23 February 2026.

Dasco said public participation is crucial given that the bill focuses on the protection of domestic workers.

“During last year’s May Day, we frequently held discussions with Mr Said Iqbal from KSPI [Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions], from which we received input that the legislation should place greater emphasis on protecting domestic workers,” he said.

Dasco added that his side would intensify the reception of public input ahead of the commencement of deliberations on the bill.

“So that is what is being developed, and God willing, starting from 5 March, public participation will continue to be carried out right through until deliberations are completed,” he said.

“And I believe that because the Domestic Workers Protection Act covers various aspects that need to be considered, public participation must be extensive, followed by in-depth study and careful deliberation,” Dasco concluded.

Previously, Speaker of the House Puan Maharani affirmed that her side had begun discussing the Domestic Workers Protection Bill by opening public participation through public hearings (RDPU).

“The DPR has now begun deliberations, seeking input from the entire public through RDPU, so that no parties end up being disadvantaged,” Puan told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 24 July 2025.

The chairwoman of the PDI-P central board assured that the public would be given the opportunity to express their views openly. The aim, she continued, is to ensure that employers, service users, and domestic worker placement agencies do not feel disadvantaged by the provisions in the bill.

“So the process is indeed under way to receive input from all elements of society first — we are not rushing it,” she said.
