Omni Batavia

Omni Batavia

The flooding in Jakarta on Feb. 10 to Feb. 12 forced me to
stay at Hotel Omni Batavia on Jl. Kali Besar Barat 44-46 in West
Jakarta.

Around midnight on Feb. 11, I was awakened by deafening
banging on my door. It was being forced open by three men. They
were calling a name unknown to me. In the darkness, with only
some light coming from the bathroom, I was trying my best to ask
the purpose of their forceful entry. They were also taken aback
because they did not find their friend. They said they had been
given a magnetic card by the hotel's reception without the number
being checked.

The next day I reported the incident to the hotel manager and
received an unsatisfactory reply saying that such things might
happen. He apologized but showed no qualms, responsibility or
guilt.

This new hotel should be more alert by ensuring that its
magnetic cards are safe. It surprised me that no one came to see
what the commotion was about. The pounding must have carried to
10 rooms.
