Ombudsman urges objective resolution of employment issues

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) is urging that employment issues be resolved objectively and in accordance with prevailing regulations.

ORI Member Robert Na Endi Jaweng said employment matters remain among the most frequently reported issues raised by the public with the Ombudsman.

“Between 2024 and 2026, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia received around 692 reports related to employment, 279 of which concerned the core issue of workers’ rights,” Robert said when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He revealed that the complaints received by the Ombudsman came from public reports, rapid responses, and investigations initiated at its own discretion (IAPS).

He detailed that there were 227 reports in 2024, 251 in 2025, and 214 in 2026 as of August.

Robert argued that this situation shows there are still problems in fulfilling various workers’ rights that require attention and resolution from state administrators and related parties.

Furthermore, he affirmed that as a state institution with a public service oversight function, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia plays a role in ensuring that the employment sector is administered in an accountable manner while continuing to safeguard the constitutional rights of workers and labourers.

To discuss the resolution of severance pay issues and the fulfilment of workers’ rights together with a number of stakeholders, the Ombudsman held a coordination meeting on employment affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9).

The coordination meeting formed part of ORI’s efforts to encourage the objective resolution of employment issues in accordance with prevailing regulations.

Through the meeting, the Ombudsman hoped to gather various perspectives in order to formulate next steps regarding the settlement of severance payments and employment rights.

Those attending the meeting included the Ministry of Manpower, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Office, the Banten Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, and the West Java Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office.

Also present were the Central Java Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office, the Tangerang City Manpower Office, the Cimahi City Manpower Office, the Semarang City Manpower Office, and the Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Manpower and Transmigration Office of Jepara Regency.
