Ombudsman records declining trend in investment and downstreaming sector complaints
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ombudsman has recorded a declining trend in public complaints to the institution concerning the investment and downstreaming sector over recent years. During a visit to the Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming in Jakarta on Thursday (18/6), Ombudsman member Abdul Ghoffar stated that since 2025, the trend has decreased, with 183 complaints lodged. ‘As of mid-2026, the number stands at 90 reports. We hope it will not increase,’ Ghoffar said, as quoted from a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said the acceleration of complaint resolution is carried out through optimising inter-agency coordination by appointing active and responsive liaison officers. Ghoffar expressed hope that during the meeting, liaison officers could be appointed directly so that coordination can proceed immediately. He also conveyed the existence of a public service compliance assessment organised by the Ombudsman. In that assessment, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming has already achieved a good service quality score. ‘If the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming wishes to improve its service quality score to very good, it can refer to the provisions of Law Number 25 of 2009 concerning Public Services,’ he said. The Ombudsman will establish synergy to prevent maladministration through public service studies in the investment and downstreaming sector and by enhancing human resource capacity. Capacity building can be carried out through seminars, training, and focused discussions. According to him, such knowledge exchange is necessary so that each party can understand the other’s workflow. Responding to this, Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Todotua Pasaribu said that almost all of the ministry’s work programmes are related to services. Therefore, if not implemented properly, it will become a problem because investment contributes 30 percent to economic growth. He expressed hope for continued guidance from the Ombudsman regarding the improvement of services to the public. ‘We are confident that if we work correctly, provide good service, and resolve complaints, the targets given to the Ministry of Investment will be achieved,’ said Todotua.
