Ombudsman Ethics Council Dishonourably Dismisses Hery Susanto

The Ethics Council of the Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) has imposed a severe sanction, namely the dishonourable dismissal from the position of Chairman and Member of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term, against the inactive Chairman, Hery Susanto.

The Chairman of the Ombudsman RI Ethics Council, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that Hery Susanto was proven to have committed serious violations of the code of ethics and code of conduct for members of the Indonesian Ombudsman. “Imposing a severe-level sanction, namely dishonourable dismissal from the position of chairman acting as a member of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term, to Hery Susanto,” Jimly said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

The Ethics Council emphasised that this decision is final and binding in the enforcement of the code of ethics and conduct for ORI personnel.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office named Hery Susanto a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the business governance of nickel mining activities between 2013 and 2025. The Director of Investigation for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Hery allegedly committed this criminal act while serving as a member of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2021-2026 period.

In this case, Hery is alleged to have received bribes amounting to IDR 1.5 billion from the company PT TSHI. The issue originated when PT TSHI faced problems regarding the calculation of non-tax state revenue (PNBP) by the Ministry of Forestry. Subsequently, PT TSHI sought a resolution through collusion with Hery Susanto, who was a Commissioner of the Indonesian Ombudsman at the time. To facilitate this, he allegedly received funds from the Director of PT TSHI.
