The Ethics Council of the Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) has imposed a sanction of dishonourable dismissal (PTDH) on the inactive Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto. The Chairman of the ORI Ethics Council, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that Hery Susanto was proven to have committed serious violations of the code of ethics and code of conduct for members of the Indonesian Ombudsman.

“Imposing a severe-level sanction, namely dishonourable dismissal from the position of Chairman acting as a member of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term, to Hery Susanto,” Jimly said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

Consequently, the Ethics Council has recommended that the leadership of the ORI submit a copy of this decision to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), and Commission II of the DPR RI, to facilitate the appointment of new members and a chairman in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. The Ethics Council emphasised that the decision is final and binding in the enforcement of the code of ethics and conduct for ORI personnel.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office named Hery Susanto a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving nickel mining business management activities spanning 2013-2025. The Director of Investigation for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Hery allegedly committed these criminal acts while serving as a member of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2021-2026 period.

“The designation of the suspect was made after the investigation team obtained sufficient evidence through a series of investigative actions, searches, and other procedures,” he said at the Jampidsus Building, Jakarta, on Thursday. In this case, Hery is alleged to have received bribes amounting to Rp1.5 billion from PT TSHI. The issue arose when PT TSHI faced problems regarding the calculation of non-tax state revenue (PNBP) by the Ministry of Forestry. PT TSHI subsequently sought a resolution through collusion with Hery Susanto, who was a Commissioner of the Indonesian Ombudsman at the time. To facilitate this, he allegedly received funds from an individual representing the director of PT TSHI.
