Actor Omar Daniel has shared a rarely seen personal side of his life, revealing he once shouldered the immense responsibility of being the family breadwinner. He said: ‘Being a family breadwinner? I’ve definitely experienced it, and it’s a source of pride,’ during a press conference for the screening of the film ‘The Husband is a Pest’, reported on Tuesday (26/5).

For Omar, providing for his family is not a burden but a gift not everyone receives. He expressed gratitude for reaching a point where he could ask his parents to rest and take over the family’s economic responsibilities.

In his latest film directed by Anggy Umbara, Omar plays Damar, a man struggling to provide for his wife, mother, and siblings amid economic pressures. Although he shares similarities in financial responsibility, Omar emphasises that Damar’s conflicts in the film are far more complex than his real-life experience. However, he stressed communication as the key to handling family dynamics: ‘It’s about how families communicate well when they need to. Communication is the key to maintaining healthy family relationships,’ he added.

The film tackles sensitive issues surrounding household dynamics when couples must live with extended families during economic hardship.
