Omani Delegation Arrives in Tehran for Strait of Hormuz Shipping Talks

A diplomatic delegation from Oman arrived in Tehran to negotiate shipping mechanisms through the Strait of Hormuz, Al-Alam television reported on Friday (24/7), citing sources.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until American intervention in the region ends. The IRGC also stated that no vessels would be permitted to pass.

Responding to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Muscat on 11 July, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that Iran and Oman had agreed to continue consultations regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Baghaei, the future governance arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz must be determined through consultations between Iran and Oman, taking into account the situation in recent months as well as military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding on the evening of 18 June, which regulated the cessation of the conflict that began on 28 February. However, since 8 July, the United States military has launched a series of attacks against Iran.

The United States Central Command (Centcom) stated that the attacks were a response to Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian military subsequently retaliated by launching attacks against United States military bases in the Middle East and accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement. United States President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire was no longer in effect.
