Moscow (ANTARA) - Oman has informed European nations that it may impose charges on ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that returning to the pre-war status quo is impossible, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday (26/6).

These fees may be applied to services related to de-pollution efforts or assistance provided to ships navigating the strait, the news agency reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The United States, the European Union, and several Gulf Arab nations have protested the plans by Oman and Iran to establish a system of levies or fees within this vital waterway.

It remains unclear whether these payments will be mandatory. Oman is reportedly analysing systems used by other nations to manage maritime traffic, specifically referencing the Strait of Malacca, which does not impose such fees.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the situation will not return to normal following the US-Israel attacks on his country.

Iran maintains that the imposition of fees is intended for services to ensure safe passage, rather than acting as a toll.

On 28 February, the US and Israel attacked Iran. This military aggression resulted in damage and civilian casualties on the Iranian side.

On the night of 18 June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum via remote connection guaranteeing an end to the military conflict.

The memorandum also established a timeframe for the US to lift its naval blockade and for Iran to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
