Oman Sultan and Iranian Foreign Minister Discuss Mediation Efforts in Regional Conflict
Doha (ANTARA) - Sultan Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Muscat to discuss initiatives by mediators for resolving the regional conflict, according to a report from the Oman News Agency (ONA) on Sunday.
According to the report, the Omani leader outlined several approaches to strengthen these efforts, improve the prospects of a lasting political resolution, and reduce the impact of the crisis on the population in the region.
The Omani leader emphasised the importance of prioritising dialogue and diplomacy to address the challenges.
According to the ONA report, Araghchi conveyed his thanks to Oman for its mediation role and support for resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
On 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire.
Negotiations in Islamabad ended without results. Although there was no announcement of the resumption of hostilities, the US initiated a blockade of Iranian ports.
