Oman Reaffirms Commitment to Restore Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

Oman on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to working with all parties to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law. In a statement, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the sultanate continues to engage in “transparent and neutral cooperation” with all sides to restore shipping through the strategic waterway, while remaining fully committed to its obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The ministry called on all parties to respect and comply with international law, stressing that efforts to restore maritime navigation must be conducted in full adherence to internationally recognised legal principles. The statement followed reports from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) earlier that day that two oil tankers had been attacked while transiting the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.
