Oman has expressed its commitment to continuously maintaining the smooth flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and has urged Iran and the United States to resolve their disputes through lasting political channels.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, in his speech at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday (26/9), stated that the conflict arising from US-Israel attacks on Iran threatens regional security.

He noted that the conflict also disrupts shipping and trade passing through this strategic route, impacting energy security, prices, and confidence in the international system.

Albusiguidi stated that Oman is committed to protecting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

He invited all parties to cooperate with Muscat to ensure that shipping lanes through this strategic point remain open, while respecting the interests of nations that depend on the route.

The Foreign Minister also urged Tehran and Washington to resolve existing disputes and seek a political understanding that could provide a long-term way out of the crisis.

Albusaidi expressed Oman’s solidarity with neighbouring countries in the steps they have taken to protect their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Regarding Yemen, he reaffirmed Oman’s support for a political solution that maintains the unity, stability, and territorial integrity of the nation.

He called on relevant parties to work towards an agreement that protects Yemen’s sovereignty as well as its relations with neighbouring countries.
