MELBOURNE (AP): The Olympic flame revisited Melbourne for the
first time in 44 years on Saturday as the torch relay continued
its journey to Sydney for the Sept. 15 opening ceremony at
Stadium Australia.
The flame arrived in Melbourne via Geelong, where Australia's
oldest living Olympian, 90-year-old Dick Garrard, joined the
torch relay at a community celebration.
The flame that will light the Olympic cauldron to officially
open the Sydney 2000 games is scheduled to arrive at the
Melbourne Cricket Ground, venue for the 1956 Olympics, on Sunday.
