Old home not protected
I would like to make the following clarifications regarding a news item from The Jakarta Post published on Dec. 6 titled Another protected building destroyed. I was one of the sources interviewed on Dec. 4 by the Post.
* The old building on Jl. Teuku Cik Ditiro 1, Central Jakarta, was not among protected or listed buildings, but was categorized as a C grade building in the Menteng conservation area, meaning that it was allowed to be demolished. However when a new building goes up on the site, the owner will face certain rules pertaining to the conservation area.
* I regretted that such a unique building was demolished, and that it was not in the category of listed or protected buildings. The building once gained a conservation awareness certificate in 1993.
* I did not make a statement about "monitoring and controlling" because the structure was not listed as a protected building.
* The uniqueness of the building is its unsymmetrical style while others with the same style are symmetrical and formal. Homes in the next period referred to the layout of such homes.
I hope the above clarification avoids any potential problems. I would like to remind the Post to be more cautious in its reportage to avoid disadvantages to other parties.
