OKU Regency develops waste-to-alternative fuel system
The OKU Regency Government in South Sumatra is developing a waste-to-alternative fuel system to boost local revenue. OKU Regent Teddy Meilwansyah said on Sunday in Baturaja that his administration is adopting a waste-to-alternative fuel technology system from the RDF Plant in Jakarta or TB Simatupang Waste Sorting Facility for implementation in the region. “Our visit to the RDF Plant in Jakarta or TB Simatupang Waste Sorting Facility on Friday (22 May) followed up on our partnership with PT Asiana Technologies Lestary to observe the waste processing process there,” he said. During the visit, he observed firsthand how the waste processing system converts landfill waste into an alternative fuel for the cement industry. The technology is claimed to process waste without relying on the regional budget (APBD) or processing fees (tipping fees). In addition to reducing waste accumulation, this partnership model also offers added value for the region. The company will lease land at the landfill provided by the regency government, creating a new source of local revenue. “The system is planned to be implemented this year at the landfill site in OKU Regency,” he explained. Through this system, he said, the volume of waste entering the landfill is expected to drastically reduce while meeting industry demand for eco-friendly fuel. “Waste management has traditionally been conventional and burdensome on the budget. This RDF technology is the right solution as it not only reduces waste but also generates land rental income without operational costs from the regional budget,” said OKU Regent Teddy Meilwansyah.
