Baturaja (ANTARA) - The Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency Government, South Sumatra, is accelerating the construction of a permanent People’s School by preparing a strategic 8-hectare plot of land. OKU Regent Teddy Meilwansyah in Baturaja on Tuesday stated that the regency is currently running a pilot People’s School that is actively operating in the former Bandiklat building in Simpang Tegal Arum, Sepancar Ward. “We want to build a permanent structure so that teaching and learning activities at the People’s School can be more optimal,” he said. He added that to speed up the construction of the permanent building, his side is taking proactive measures by approaching the Ministry of Social Affairs so that the People’s School in OKU Regency can be built this year. These efforts represent a strategic step to strengthen synergy between the central and local governments in providing educational access for underprivileged communities. “This swift action underscores the seriousness of the OKU Regency Government in breaking the chain of poverty through education, while also reinforcing hopes for the imminent arrival of a permanent People’s School,” he stated. Meanwhile, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf has appreciated the enthusiasm of the OKU Regency Government to build a permanent People’s School in the area. He affirmed that his ministry will prioritise OKU Regency for the construction of a permanent People’s School this year. “Of course, we will prioritise it. Especially since there is already a pilot People’s School in OKU Regency. So, this year we will build it,” he said.
