The Narcotics Unit of the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regional Police successfully apprehended a drug trafficker who attempted to flee after stabbing an officer in Baturaja, South Sumatra. Brigpol Joni Agustoni, a member of the OKU Regional Police’s Narcotics Unit, sustained stab wounds during the arrest operation in the Pasar Atas area on Tuesday (26 May) around 10:15 AM WIB. OKU Police Chief AKBP Endro Aribowo stated that the suspect, identified as AJ, is a repeat offender in narcotics cases who has been incarcerated twice. When police attempted to apprehend him, AJ violently resisted by stabbing an officer with a sharp weapon. He explained that the stabbing occurred when four Narcotics Unit officers followed the suspect from Dusun Baturaja to Pasar Atas. When two officers cornered the suspect’s motorcycle, AJ suddenly pulled out a knife from his waist and swung it at the officers. One officer managed to dodge, but Brigpol Joni Agustoni was stabbed in the lower back, with the blade piercing his front ribs. The victim was immediately taken to RSUD Ibnu Sutowo in Baturaja for medical treatment. After the stabbing, the suspect tried to flee but was apprehended by two other officers and local residents who were on standby at the scene. During a search, police found evidence including three packets of methamphetamine weighing 1.50 grams, a brown wooden-handled knife, and a Suzuki Nex motorcycle used by the suspect. Due to his actions, Endro said AJ faces multiple charges under narcotics laws, grievous assault on law enforcement personnel, and illegal possession of a weapon, with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
