OKU District Police arrest Lengkiti murderer in under 12 hours
The Criminal Investigation Unit of OKU District Police, alongside Lengkiti Police Station, solved a case of assault resulting in death in Dusun IV, Bumi Kawa Village, Lengkiti Subdistrict, OKU Regency. The police’s swift action led to the suspect’s arrest within 12 hours.
The incident occurred on Sunday (31/5/2026) around 4:30 AM. Victim RR, a resident of Bumi Kawa Village, died from stab wounds inflicted by suspect H (29), also a local resident.
Initial investigations revealed the dispute began over a borrowed mobile phone that was not returned. Upon encountering the victim, the suspect became enraged and attacked with a sharp weapon, causing the victim’s death at the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the Operational Team of OKU District Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit and Lengkiti Police Station immediately responded. Officers processed the crime scene, gathered witness statements, secured evidence, and pursued the suspect.
During the case handling, OKU District Police engaged community leaders, the village government, and the suspect’s family to persuade him to surrender, preventing potential security disruptions in the community. The efforts proved successful.
On the same day at around 4:30 PM, the suspect surrendered at Lengkiti Police Station, accompanied by the village head and family members. He was then detained and transferred to OKU District Police for legal proceedings.
OKU District Police Chief AKBP Endro Aribowo stated that the swift case resolution was a result of the team’s rapid, professional, and measured efforts.
“Thank God, the suspect was apprehended in under 12 hours, ensuring public safety remained controlled and preventing wider issues,” said the police chief.
In addition to apprehending the suspect, officers seized evidence related to the crime, including the sharp weapon used in the assault.
The swift resolution demonstrated OKU District Police’s readiness to provide legal certainty and maintain public security in OKU Regency.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, Head of Public Relations for South Sumatra Police Department, praised OKU District Police’s swift handling of the case.
“Rapid case resolution is crucial for maintaining public safety. OKU District Police’s swift actions demonstrate that every citizen report is taken seriously, professionally, and methodically. Beyond enforcing the law, these actions also safeguard social stability and prevent potential security threats in the community,” said Mu’min Wijaya.
Currently, OKU District Police Criminal Investigation Unit is finalising the investigation through witness and suspect interviews, case review, and coordination with prosecutors for further legal proceedings.
