Ojol Presidential Regulation Finalisation Nears Completion, One Meeting Remaining

The Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has stated that the deliberation of the draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres) concerning online motorcycle taxis (ojol) is now entering its final stage. The finalisation process with the government is scheduled to leave just one more meeting. Dasco explained that the crucial meeting will take place at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 18 August 2026. The DPR will invite relevant ministries to present the final draft of the regulation. This step is being taken to ensure the formulation of the regulation does not lead to differing interpretations during implementation. As the supervisory body, the DPR wants to ensure this legal product does not trigger new dynamics within society. In addition to ministries, the DPR also plans to seek input from online motorcycle taxi application companies before the finalisation. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi previously confirmed that the focus of the Perpres is regulating two-wheeled vehicle services for transporting people and goods. The government is currently finalising the norms within it to clearly cover document delivery services. Regarding the status of drivers, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi mentioned that the regulation will categorise ojol drivers as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). Minister of UMKM Maman Abdurrahman added that this status aims to provide flexibility and access to incentives for the drivers. He also firmly denied rumours suggesting that ojol drivers would automatically be taxed once categorised as UMKM, assuring the public that such information is a hoax.
