Ojol drivers prefer micro-entrepreneur status, tax exemption proposed for JHT and THR
Jakarta (ANTARA) - News about the majority of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers choosing micro-entrepreneur status and a proposal to eliminate taxes on Old Age Security (JHT) and holiday bonuses (THR) dominated economic reporting on Tuesday (8/7).
Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman stated that the majority of ojol drivers representing 19 partner communities of Gojek, Grab, and Maxim prefer to be classified as micro-entrepreneurs rather than formal employees. “I asked the ojol community and association representatives about their status, whether they wanted to be workers or operate as micro-entrepreneurs. They all want micro-entrepreneur status,” Maman said after a dialogue with hundreds of ojol drivers at the MSME Ministry office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has granted approval for the merger of eight rural banks (BPR) into PT BPR Pusaka Dana, located in Ciputat District, South Tangerang City, Banten Province, as part of a consolidation agenda. The eight BPRs are PT BPR Lambang Ganda, PT BPR Tutur Ganda, PT BPR Sungkunandhana, PT BPR Persada Ganda, PT BPR Ihuthan Ganda, PT BPR Sapadhana, PT BPR Padat Ganda, and PT BPR Ulintha Ganda.

Special Presidential Advisor for Employment and Workers’ Welfare Said Iqbal has proposed the elimination of taxes on Old Age Security (JHT), holiday bonuses (THR), pension benefits, and severance pay to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. “I was assigned by the President to provide input regarding workers’ welfare, and the taxes imposed on social security are also important,” Said Iqbal told reporters after meeting Purbaya at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
