Indonesia’s Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the Investment Management Agency Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) has already purchased shares in some online motorcycle taxi (ojol) applications. The purpose of this acquisition is to reduce the commission cut taken from ojol drivers from 10-20 percent to eight percent.

“The first thing is to lower the fees taken by the applications. Previously 20 or 10 percent, so the applications will only take eight percent from the collected amount,” said Dasco when receiving an audience from a labour union alliance in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

Regarding discussions on the employment relationship status between ojol drivers and their partners, he said that it is still being simulated. However, he assured that ojol drivers’ organisations will be involved in determining those policies.

“Ojol friends’ organisations will still be invited to talk, to deliberate,” he said.

According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed that if there are companies facing difficulties, they will be assisted or even taken over by the government. This is done so that workers can continue working and have a place of employment.

The specific application shares bought by Danantara were not mentioned. However, Danantara was previously reported to be interested in buying shares in GoTo.
