Financial sector crimes are increasingly diversifying in their methods. Perpetrators are employing various tactics to drain victims’ bank accounts through unexpected traps. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has reminded the public to remain vigilant against the latest digital scams.

Dicky Kartikoyono, the Executive Head of Supervision of Financial Service Provider Conduct, Education, and Consumer Protection at OJK, revealed that illegal entities can now infiltrate users while they are watching Chinese dramas online.

OJK noted that from 1 January to 20 May 2026, the authority has received 17,105 complaints related to illegal entities.

Consequently, the public is urged to be cautious of the latest fraudulent methods, such as those involving tasks to watch Chinese drama films and the purported purchase of film copyrights to generate profits.

He explained that OJK, through the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI), has followed up on these complaints by shutting down 951 illegal online lending entities, 8 illegal investment offers, and one other illegal financial activity across various websites and applications that pose a risk to the public.

He disclosed that throughout the period of May 2026, Satgas PASTI has halted business activities involving various fraudulent modes.

Furthermore, fraud is being perpetrated by foreign parties suspected of using impersonation tactics and offering fraudulent Initial Public Offering (IPO) stock investments.

Other identified methods include impersonation scams involving the creation of e-commerce accounts and depositing funds to earn commissions.

Additionally, there are scams involving impersonation through tasks such as watching advertisements and financing fictitious projects.

There is also a fraudulent mode involving suspected cryptocurrency investments through copy trading schemes.

In the interest of enforcing consumer protection regulations, OJK has issued written warnings and/or administrative sanctions, including 48 written warnings to 44 Financial Service Providers (PUJK), 5 written instructions to 5 PUJK, and 17 fines to 15 PUJK.

Meanwhile, during the same period, regarding the market conduct of PUJK, OJK has imposed 17 administrative sanctions in the form of written warnings and 11 administrative sanctions in the form of fines.
