The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has expressed its support for the implementation of the Economic Census by Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Chairperson of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, described it as an important agenda for the state to understand the economic situation in a granular manner.

She therefore encouraged financial service businesses (PUJK) to be willing to receive visits from economic census officers and to answer questions honestly. “OJK supports this economic census so that all PUJK, when BPS comes, they provide answers to the census and provide truthful answers,” Kiki said after the OJK Seminar on Scams with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/7/2026).

She stated that OJK also has an interest in viewing the economic census data in a more granular fashion, especially in the regions. Kiki added that she trusts the credibility of BPS and believes the field officers and the entire BPS team will maintain the confidentiality of public data.

However, she acknowledged the potential for irresponsible individuals to exploit this momentum. Therefore, she advised the public to remain vigilant and verify the identity of any census officer who visits. “So make sure to check their ID card, perhaps check with the local RT/RW because usually they don’t just come directly. They usually contact the RT/RW first and so on,” Kiki said.

There is still a common misconception that data collected through the Economic Census is used for tax collection. BPS has firmly stated that the Economic Census has a different purpose. Over a decade, many changes occur in the national economy, and administrative data is insufficient to capture all these changes. For this reason, the government conducts the Economic Census, which serves as a basis for decision-making and policies that impact the public. The Economic Census is held to produce official statistics that comprehensively describe the condition of the Indonesian economy. The collected data will be processed into aggregate statistics providing information on business structures, household economic capacity, regional economic potential, and various changes occurring in the Indonesian economy.
